Sperrins Gateway announces series of FREE events this spring

Thursday, 7 April, 2016

The sights, sounds, history and heritage of the Mid Ulster Sperrins area are the focus of a series of FREE events being organised and delivered by Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership (SGLP) this spring.

From plants to wildlife, birds to geology, the FREE events are open to everyone and will showcase the abundance of things to see and do in the local area.

Details and Dates are as follows:

 Saturday 16th April, 10.30am to 12noon:

Feed the locals! - Spring planting to encourage wildlife with Dr Valerie Stewart

Location: The Polytunnel, Back Road, Draperstown

Dr Valerie Stewart will share practical ways to give wildlife a helping hand through your choice of planting this spring.

The morning will include a demonstration and participants will also get a chance to sow seeds and take a pot home to make a start in their own outdoor space.

Wednesday 20th April, 7.30pm

Putting the Sperrins on the map!-An introduction to Wildlife Recording with Mark Edgar, Biodiversity Officer, Mid Ulster Council

Location: Kilcronaghan Centre, Tobermore

Do you know of any birds, mammals or interesting plants in your area but don't know what to record or how to record it?

Maybe you keep records but don't know where to submit them?

Everyone can get involved with wildlife recording no matter what their age or level of knowledge.

Recording the wildlife that is present in the Sperrins is vital for the management and conservation of our area's biodiversity.

Monday 2nd May (Bank Holiday Monday), 10am

Spring Stroll - a guided nature walk with RSPB volunteer, David Morrow

Location: Lissan House, Cookstown. Meeting at the car park at 10am.

Join us as we explore the ancient woodland and banks of Lissan Water in the historic grounds of Lissan Demesne.

David will share his extensive knowledge of birds and plants that we spot along the way and if we're very lucky we may find signs of some of Lissan's more elusive residents, such as otters.

Suitable footwear and clothing are essential.

Friday 20th May and Saturday 21st May

Spring into the Sperrins weekend

Location:  based at Moneyneena Hall (An Rath Dubh)
